Fashion: Jean-Paul Gaultier announces that his haute couture fashion show on Wednesday will be his “last”

The famous couturier will embark on a new project, after 50 years of career.

Fashion icon Jean Paul Gaultier announced Friday that his haute couture fashion show scheduled for Wednesday in Paris would be his “last”, after 50 years of career, while specifying that he was going to embark on a “new project” with his house.

“On 22 January 2020, I will be celebrating my 50 years of career in fashion with a major Haute Couture fashion show at the Théâtre du Châtelet. It will also be my last parade, “said the designer in this press release.

“But rest assured, the house of Couture Gaultier Paris continues , with a new project which I am the instigator and which will be revealed to you shortly “

This announcement comes in the middle of Fashion Week, just before the fashion shows open from Monday.

The French stylist of 67 years, who had made his debut notably with Pierre Cardin, has been an essential figure in the world of couture since he shook up dress codes in the years 80. He is the author of iconic creations such as the bustier with conical cups worn by Madonna.

Since his first collections, Gaultier has had the art of mixing genres, sexes, eras, street banter popular and the distinction of beautiful neighborhoods.

This son of an accountant, who grew up in Arcueil (Val-de-Marne), near Paris, and who was very young introduced to sewing by his grand -mother esthetician, thus creates skirts for men in 1984 because for him, “a man does not wear his masculinity on his clothes, his manhood is in his head”.
